Privacy Policy

Quiet hides parts of YouTube. To do that, it never needs to know what you watch, and it doesn't collect it.

• Without an account, the extension sends us nothing. Every free feature runs locally in your browser.
• We never collect your watch history: not video titles, not URLs, not channels you watch.
• Your channel and keyword filters stay on your device. Matching happens locally; the page content is never sent to us.
• We never see your card details. Stripe handles payments end to end.

Quiet is a Chrome extension and website operated by Tanishq Garg, ABN 79 130 803 721, based in Australia. In this policy “we”, “us” and “Quiet” mean that operator, and “you” means the person using Quiet.

The free tier requires no account and no sign-in. Your settings, which elements to hide and whether Quiet is on, are stored by your browser on your own computer, using Chrome's extension storage. They are not transmitted to us, and we have no way to read them.

If you never create an account, we do not collect any personal information about you at all.

An account is only needed for Quiet Pro. When you create one, we hold:

• Your email address, so you can sign in and so we can contact you about your subscription.
• Your password, hashed: stored and verified by our authentication provider, never in a form we or anyone else can read. If you sign in with Google instead, we receive your email address and a Google account identifier, not your Google password.
• A display name, if you choose to set one. Entirely optional.
• Why you're using Quiet. When you sign up we ask one question: whether you're a student, a remote worker, a parent, and so on. You pick from a short list; it isn't free text. We use it to tailor the setup we suggest to you, and it is not shared with anyone or used for advertising.
• Your Quiet settings, so they can sync between your devices: which elements you hide, your schedule, your profiles, your channel allowlist and blocklist, your keyword filters, your watch limit and your session nudge setting.
• Daily usage counts: how many elements Quiet hid, and how many seconds you spent on YouTube, per day. These are totals only. They power the stats in your dashboard. They do not record what you watched.
• A random identifier for each browser you use Quiet Pro in, and when it last checked in. This lets the dashboard show whether a device is still connected. It doesn't identify you beyond the account you're already signed into, and carries no more than a coarse browser and operating system label (for example "Chrome on Windows").
• Subscription details: an identifier for your customer and subscription record at Stripe, and whether that subscription is active, trialing, cancelled, past due or unpaid.
• Whether your email has used a free trial before. See Deleting your account below, because this one outlives your account by design.

Beyond the specific uses above, we also use this information more generally to operate, maintain and improve Quiet, including looking at aggregate trends across accounts rather than any one person's activity.

These are design decisions, not omissions. Quiet is built so that the information below never reaches us:

• Your browsing or watch history. We do not record the videos, channels or pages you visit, on YouTube or anywhere else.
• The content of pages you visit. When Quiet checks a video against your keyword or channel filters, that comparison happens inside your own browser. The titles and channel names being checked are never sent to us.
• Anything from sites other than YouTube. Quiet only runs on www.youtube.com and m.youtube.com. It is not permitted to run on any other site, including YouTube Studio and YouTube Music.
• Your payment card details. Card data goes directly to Stripe and never passes through our systems.
• Advertising or tracking identifiers. Quiet contains no advertising and no tracking pixels, and the extension contains no analytics of any kind. The website counts visits in a privacy-friendly way, described under Cookies below. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it to build an advertising profile.

Chrome asks you to approve a list of permissions when you install Quiet. Here is what each one is actually used for:

• Storage: to save your settings on your own device.
• Alarms: to schedule periodic background work, such as syncing settings and refreshing the hiding rules.
• Access to www.youtube.com and m.youtube.com: so Quiet can hide elements on those pages. This is the product working; it is not used to observe what you watch.
• Access to our database host: so the extension can sync your Pro settings and fetch updated hiding rules.

Quiet updates its hiding rules by downloading a small public configuration file. That download is anonymous and sends no information about you or your account.

When you write to us, through the contact form or by email, we receive your email address, the topic you chose and your message. The contact form also attaches your browser and operating system and, if the Quiet extension opened the form, its version number. If you are signed in, it adds your account ID and whether you are on Free or Pro. The form says this before you send.

We use this only to answer you and to fix what you reported. It is kept in our support inbox for as long as we need it to deal with your request and any follow-up, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

We use a small number of providers to run Quiet. They process data on our instructions, for the purposes described here:

• Supabase: accounts, authentication and database. Your data is stored in their Sydney, Australia region.
• Resend: delivers the emails Quiet sends you, such as sign-in and account emails and your welcome email. They process your email address and the content of that email to send it.
• Stripe: subscription payments. Stripe is the controller of your payment card data and handles it under its own privacy policy.
• Vercel: hosting for the Quiet website and dashboard, and the website's visit and page-speed statistics (see Cookies).
• Cloudflare: domain name services, and forwarding the email you send to our addresses into our inbox.
• Google: hosts the inbox where we receive and answer support messages and email you send us.

Some of these providers operate internationally, which means your information may be handled outside Australia. We only use providers that commit to protecting it to a comparable standard.

Beyond these providers, we do not sell, rent or disclose your personal information to anyone, except where we are legally required to.

The Quiet website uses cookies only to keep you signed in and to keep your session secure. There are no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies. If you never sign in, the site sets no cookies that identify you.

To see how the website is used and how quickly its pages load, we use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, run by our hosting provider. They set no cookies and don't follow you to other sites. They record the page you visited (without anything after the “?” in its address), the site that sent you, your country, your browser and device type, and page-load timings. Visitors are counted using a one-way code that changes every day, so a visit can't be traced back to you or linked to your visits on other days. None of this happens in the Quiet extension.

We keep your account information and settings for as long as your account exists. Daily usage counts are kept while your account exists so your dashboard can show trends over time. Subscription records are kept for as long as we need them to meet tax and accounting obligations, which in Australia is generally five years.

You can delete your account at any time from the Account page in your dashboard. Doing so immediately and permanently removes your account, your synced settings, your usage statistics and your subscription record from our database.

One thing survives deletion, and we want to be straightforward about it: we keep a record that your email address has already used a free trial. We keep it precisely because it is not linked to your account. It is what stops someone deleting and recreating an account repeatedly to claim unlimited free trials. It consists of your email address and the date the trial was used, nothing else. If you want that record removed as well, email us at privacy@letsgetquiet.com and we will handle it; note that removing it makes your email eligible for another free trial.

Deleting your Quiet account does not cancel a subscription on its own. Cancel through Manage billing first, so you are not charged again.

You can ask us to give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, or delete it. Most of this you can do yourself from the dashboard; for anything else, email us and we will respond within a reasonable time.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. If you are in Australia and you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, you can complain to us first and then, if you are still not satisfied, to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Quiet accounts are for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger.

A parent or guardian is welcome to install Quiet on a shared or family computer for a younger child to use. In that case the parent holds the account, and the child simply uses a browser with fewer distractions in it.

Worth understanding if you share an account: Quiet's settings and daily usage totals belong to the account that is signed in, not to the individual person using the browser. If more than one person uses devices signed into the same Quiet account, their activity contributes to the same settings and the same daily totals, and whoever holds that account can see those totals in the dashboard. Settings also flow the other way: a change made in the dashboard, or on any signed-in device, applies to every device on that account within about a minute. Quiet still does not record what anyone watched, only the totals described above.

If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Your data is protected in transit by encryption, and access to it is restricted at the database level so that one account cannot read another's. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affected your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we handle your personal information, we will tell you by email or in the dashboard before it takes effect.
