How to hide live chat on YouTube streams and replays

Short answer

To hide live chat on YouTube, open the three-dot menu in the chat panel and choose Hide chat. YouTube only does this for the stream you are on, so you repeat it each time. Quiet has a Live chat switch that keeps the chat panel hidden on every live stream and replay, and it is on from the moment you install.

On YouTube

  1. 1Open the live stream or replay.
  2. 2In the chat panel header, open the three-dot menu.
  3. 3Choose Hide chat.

The catch: It applies to the stream you are on. Each new stream or replay means doing it again.

With Quiet

Hides the chat panel on live streams and their replays. Comments under normal videos have their own switch, so you can keep them.

Add to ChromeFree. No account needed.

Common questions

Does Quiet hide live chat on every stream?
Yes. The Live chat switch is on by default, so the chat panel is hidden on live streams and replays without any setup.
Can I bring chat back for one stream?
Yes. Switch Live chat off in the toolbar popup, or press Alt+Shift+Q to turn Quiet off and on.
Does it hide the comments under normal videos too?
No. Live chat and Comments are separate switches, so hiding one leaves the other as it was.
Does it work in the YouTube app?
No. Quiet is a browser extension for desktop Chromium browsers such as Chrome, Edge and Brave, so it cannot reach the YouTube app on a phone or tablet.
