How to hide YouTube thumbnails and view counts

Short answer

YouTube has no setting to hide thumbnails or view counts. Quiet can hide both: the Thumbnails switch removes the picture and keeps the title, and Views & likes hides the numbers. Both are off by default, so you switch them on in the popup.

On YouTube

  1. 1Open YouTube’s settings from your profile picture.
  2. 2Look for a text-only or no-thumbnail option.
  3. 3There isn’t one: thumbnails and counts always show.

The catch: No setting hides thumbnails or counts anywhere on YouTube.

With Quiet

Both are off by default, so open the toolbar popup and turn them on. Thumbnails hides the picture and keeps the title, which gives you text-only browsing. Each switch works on its own.

Common questions

Why do thumbnails still show after I install Quiet?
Thumbnails and Views & likes are off by default. Open the toolbar popup and switch them on.
Does it hide the video I am watching?
No. It hides the preview pictures in lists and keeps the titles; the video you open plays as normal.
